Getting Started
How do I become a Keratin Revolution Pro stockist?
It's straightforward. Simply register a free Pro account atkeratinrevolutionpro.com— there's no lengthy application process or approval wait. Once registered, you'll have immediate access to our full Pro catalogue at wholesale pricing. We may contact you to verify your professional credentials, but most accounts are active within minutes of registration.
Is there a minimum order requirement to open an account?
There is no minimum order requirement to open a Pro account or place your first order. You can start with exactly what you need and scale as your confidence and client demand grows. That said, our Pro Kits and bundle options are designed to give you the best value from the outset — we'll always guide you toward the most cost-effective starting point for your salon.
Do I need to complete training before I can stock or use the products?
Training is not a prerequisite for stocking or ordering our retail lines. However, to offer the Keratin Revolution treatment service in your salon, we strongly recommend completing our Keratin Specialist Club training programme. It's designed specifically to ensure you get the best results for your clients and feel fully confident with the application process. Untrained application can lead to inconsistent results — and we want every client who leaves your chair to be a walking advertisement for your salon.
Pro Tip :
Salons that complete our training programme consistently report higher client satisfaction, better rebooking rates, and stronger retail sales. The training pays for itself quickly.
Is Keratin Revolution right for my salon?
Keratin Revolution works best for salons that already have clients asking about smoothing, frizz control, or hair health — which is most salons. It's particularly strong if you have a client base that includes:
- Clients with frizzy, curly, or unmanageable hair looking for a lasting solution
- Clients who colour or chemically process their hair and want to restore health and shine
- Clients who travel, exercise frequently, or live in humid climates and struggle with their style
- Clients interested in premium haircare retail products to maintain their results at home
If any of those sound like your clients, Keratin Revolution belongs in your salon.
Do I need to be a qualified hairdresser to register a Pro account or do the training?
Yes. To register a Keratin Revolution Pro account, you must hold a hairdressing qualification of Level 2 or above. This is a firm requirement — Pro accounts are exclusively for qualified hair professionals, and we verify this as part of the account registration process. When registering, you will be asked to provide evidence of your qualification. Acceptable evidence includes:
- A copy of your hairdressing certificate at Level 2 or above
- Business registration documents confirming you operate a professional hair services business
- Other equivalent professional evidence, at the Company's discretion
This requirement exists to protect both the integrity of the brand and the safety of your clients. Keratin treatments are professional chemical services — the products, the training, and the Pro pricing are all designed for qualified practitioners who have the skills and knowledge to apply them correctly.

The Products
What makes Keratin Revolution different from other keratin treatments on the market?
Most keratin treatments on the market use harsh chemicals that deliver results through damage rather than repair. Keratin Revolution is built around science-led formulation that works with the hair's natural structure rather than against it. Our treatment delivers genuine smoothness, shine, and strength — results that last — without compromising the integrity of the hair. We've also built a complete professional ecosystem around the treatment: a retail aftercare range, training and certification, and dedicated Pro support that most competitors simply don't offer.
Does your keratin treatment contain formaldehyde?
No. Keratin Revolution is based on glyoxylic acid— and contains no added formaldehyde. We want to be completely matter of fact about this. Glyoxylic acid is a well-established active ingredient in professional keratin treatments and works by forming bonds within the hair's structure to deliver smoothness, shine, and manageability — without the health risks associated with formaldehyde-based products. It's safe for use in a professional salon environment, and your clients can feel confident about what's going into their hair.
Key Fact :-
Keratin Revolution is glyoxylic acid based with no added formaldehyde. When a client or colleague asks, you can answer that clearly and with confidence. Full safety data sheets are available on request from hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com.
How long do the treatment results last?
Results typically last 8 to 12 weeks, depending on the client's hair type, lifestyle, and homecare routine. Clients who use the Keratin Revolution aftercare range — specifically the Smooth & Moisture shampoo and conditioner — consistently see results lasting toward the longer end of that range. This is also a great opportunity to drive retail sales: the aftercare products genuinely extend the life of the treatment, making them an easy and honest recommendation.
Is the treatment suitable for colour-treated or chemically processed hair?
Yes — Keratin Revolution is safe for use on colour-treated, highlighted, and chemically processed hair. In fact, many clients find the treatment improves the condition and appearance of previously processed hair by adding smoothness and shine. As always, a thorough client consultation is essential before any chemical service, and we recommend following our Application Instructions for clients with heavily processed hair.
What retail products do you offer and how do they complement the treatment?
Our retail range is designed to work as a complete system alongside the treatment. Key products include:
- Smooth & Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner — SLS and SLES free, formulated specifically to maintain and enhance the results of all Keratin Revolution treatments
- Silk Coat — our blow-dry spray with anti-humidity and UV protection; the perfect in-salon retail product
- Formula.Five — our molecular repair mask, a direct alternative to K18 at a more accessible price point
- Argan Oil — finishing and nourishing treatment for added shine and smoothness
- One.Leave — our leave-in conditioner with UV and heat protection, launching mid-2025
Each product has been developed to retail naturally from the treatment conversation — making it easy for your team to recommend and sell without it ever feeling pushy.
What is Formula.Five and how does it work?
Formula.Five is Keratin Revolution's advanced molecular repair treatment— our answer to K18 and similar bond-building treatments, at a more accessible price point for salons and their clients. It works at a molecular level to:
- Repair damaged hair — targeting breakage and weakness caused by chemical services, heat, and environmental damage
- Improve strength and elasticity — rebuilding the internal structure of the hair
- Increase softness and shine — delivering an immediate cosmetic improvement alongside the structural repair
- Protect against future damage — strengthening the hair before further chemical or heat services
Formula.Five is aleave-in treatment— it is not rinsed out. It can be used as a standalone treatment or alongside the keratin smoothing service for clients whose hair needs additional repair before or after the treatment.
What is Silk Coat and when should I use it?
Silk Coat is Keratin Revolution's lightweight blow-dry finishing spray— our answer to Colour Wow Dreamcoat. It is designed to:
- Reduce frizz and lock in smoothness post blow-dry
- Increase shine and enhance the finish of any style
- Protect against humidity — keeping the hair smooth and frizz-free in damp or humid conditions
- Protect against UV and heat damage
Silk Coat is suitable for use on hair extensions and works on all hair types. It's one of our strongest retail performers — clients who experience it during the smoothing service almost always want to take it home. We recommend incorporating it into your service protocol as a standard finishing step.
What is the Detox Shampoo and when should it be used?
The Detox Shampoo is a clarifying shampoo designed to remove build-up, refresh the scalp, and deeply cleanse the hair. It is particularly useful:
- As the first step of the keratin treatment protocol — clarifying the hair before treatment ensures the best possible penetration and result
- For clients who use styling products regularly and experience build-up between washes
- To resolve post-treatment stickiness caused by residual product
We recommend clients use the Detox Shampoo once or twice per week as part of their regular routine, alternating with the Smooth & Moisture Shampoo. It should not be used as an everyday shampoo as it is more stripping than the maintenance range.
Are Keratin Revolution products cruelty-free?
Yes — Keratin Revolution does not test on animals. All products are cruelty-free. Our formulations comply with UK and EU cosmetic regulations, which prohibit animal testing on cosmetic products and their ingredients.
Are all Keratin Revolution products compatible with each other? Can I layer them?
Yes — all Keratin Revolution products are fully compatible with each other and have been developed to work as an integrated system. You can layer and combine products to create customised results for your clients, which is one of the things that sets our range apart from single-product competitors. Here are some of the key ways to combine products in practice:
- Keratin Treatment + Nutritional & Repair Mask — blended for customisable results. You can mix the keratin smoothing treatment with the Nutritional & Repair Mask in different ratios to tailor the outcome for each client. A higher ratio of mask softens the smoothing effect and adds intense conditioning — ideal for clients who want more movement and less straightening. A higher ratio of treatment delivers maximum smoothness and frizz control. This gives you the flexibility to personalise the service rather than offering a one-size-fits-all result.
- Argan Oil + Silk Coat as part of the smoothing service protocol. Both the Argan Oil and Silk Coat can be incorporated into your smoothing service as finishing steps, adding shine, humidity protection, and a polished result that clients will notice immediately. They also make a natural retail recommendation at the end of the appointment.
Can I use the Nutritional & Repair Mask to prepare damaged hair before the treatment?
Yes — and for clients with particularly damaged or compromised hair, we actively recommend it. Using the Nutritional & Repair Mask as a pre-treatment prep step helps restore some structure and strength to the hair before the keratin treatment is applied, which can improve both the application experience and the final result. The pre-treatment prep protocol is straightforward:
- Apply the Clarifying Shampoo and rinse thoroughly
- Apply the Nutritional & Repair Mask and leave for 4 minutes
- Rinse the mask out completely
- Proceed with the keratin smoothing treatment as per the standard application process
This additional step is particularly recommended for clients with heavily colour-treated, bleached, or heat-damaged hair. It takes only a few minutes and makes a noticeable difference to both the application and the longevity of the result.
Pro Tip :-
The pre-treatment mask prep protocol is also a great opportunity to retail the Nutritional & Repair Mask to the client for home use between treatments — position it as the product that keeps their hair in the best possible condition to maintain their results.
Does Keratin Revolution work on all hair textures?
Yes — Keratin Revolution works on all hair textures, from bleach blonde over-processed hair all the way through to Afro and 4C textures. The product itself is effective across the full spectrum. What changes is not whether it works, but how it is applied — the application procedure varies depending on the hair texture, condition, and the result the client is looking for.Full in-depth guidance on working with different hair textures is covered in our training courses. As a general guide:
- Fine, bleach blonde, or over-processed hair — we recommend mixing the keratin smoothing treatment with the Nutritional & Repair Mask on a 50/50 ratio, creating more of a hair tox treatment. This is gentler on compromised hair and delivers a more natural, voluminous result.
- Thicker, coarser, or Afro textures — the full strength treatment is appropriate, and application technique will be adapted to ensure full coverage and penetration. Full guidance is provided in training.
Why would I mix the keratin treatment with the Nutritional & Repair Mask?
Mixing the two products allows you to customise the treatment to match your client's hair texture, condition, and desired result — rather than applying a one-size-fits-all service.Take a client with fine, bleach blonde, over-processed hair as an example. They want to remove frizz — but because their hair is finer, a full-strength treatment could leave it looking flat and without volume. By mixing the keratin smoothing treatment with the Nutritional & Repair Mask on a 50/50 ratio, you dilute the smoothing effect while adding intense conditioning. The result is frizz reduction with maintained natural volume — a more flattering and natural-looking outcome for that hair type.Mixing also gives you a way to have a more nuanced client consultation — you can explain that you're tailoring the treatment specifically for their hair, which elevates the perception of the service.
Key Principle :-
The 50/50 mix is not a compromise — it's a customised treatment. For finer or over-processed hair, it delivers a more appropriate, more natural-looking result than full-strength treatment.
Will the result be different if I use the 50/50 mix?
Yes — and intentionally so. With the 50/50 mix, the smoothing effect will not be as strong as with the full-strength treatment. However, the hair will maintain more of its natural volume and movement, giving a softer, more natural-looking result overall. For clients with finer hair who are concerned about their hair going flat, this is actually the more desirable outcome. It's about matching the result to what the client genuinely wants — and for many clients on finer hair, a lighter smoothing effect with preserved volume is exactly that.In terms of longevity, the 50/50 mix will typically last around two months, compared to three months or more with the full-strength treatment. This is worth communicating clearly to the client at consultation so they have accurate expectations.
Should I charge differently for the 50/50 mix?
That depends on your own pricing strategy — but there are a couple of factors worth considering. The cost of product is lower with the 50/50 mix, because you're replacing a portion of the keratin smoothing treatment with the Nutritional & Repair Mask, which sits at a lower price point. Your product cost per service is therefore reduced.Whether you pass that saving on to the client, absorb it as additional margin, or maintain a single treatment price across all hair types is a business decision for you. Many salons operate a single service price for simplicity — others build a tiered structure based on hair type and product used. Our pricing calculator spreadsheet can help you model both approaches accurately based on your actual product costs. Contact hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com to request a copy.
Will the treatment make my client's hair completely straight?
No — and this is an important distinction to make clearly with every client before the service. Keratin Revolution is a smoothing treatment, not a straightening treatment. It will not eradicate curl or make the hair poker straight. What it will do is significantly reduce frizz, smooth the hair, soften the curl, and make the hair far more manageable. Clients will find their blow dry time is greatly reduced, their hair is easier to style, and the results of their blow out last much longer. On curly hair, the treatment will soften and loosen the curl pattern — but the curl will still be there.Setting the right expectation at consultation is essential. A client expecting poker-straight hair will be disappointed. A client who understands they're getting smoother, more manageable hair with reduced frizz and a softer curl will be delighted.
Key Distinction :-
Smoothing, not straightening. Reduced frizz, softer curl, more manageable hair, faster blow dry — not poker-straight results. Set this expectation clearly at every consultation.
Can the treatment be reversed or removed if a client doesn't like the result?
The treatment is not permanent, which is reassuring for any client who is trying keratin smoothing for the first time. It will not be locked into the hair forever. However, it is also not instantly reversible — it cannot simply be washed out or removed in a single session. The treatment fades progressively over time with each wash, typically over a period of around three months. So a client who is unhappy with their result will see their natural texture gradually return over that period as they wash their hair as normal. There is no specific removal process required — time and washing will do it naturally. This is another reason why the pre-service consultation is so important — ensuring the client understands and is happy with the expected outcome before the treatment is applied.
How long will the keratin smoothing treatment last?
The Keratin Revolution smoothing treatment typically lasts three months or more. However, longevity is directly influenced by a number of factors that are worth discussing with your client at consultation:
- Aftercare products. The single biggest factor in longevity is the shampoo your client uses at home. We recommend the Keratin Revolution Smooth & Moisture Shampoo, which is SLS and SLES free and specifically formulated to maintain and extend the results of the treatment. Using a standard shampoo containing sulphates will significantly reduce how long the results last.
- Wash frequency. The more frequently a client washes their hair, the quicker the treatment will fade. Clients who wash less frequently will typically see results lasting toward and beyond the three-month mark.
- Swimming. Chlorinated pool water can affect the treatment and overall hair condition. Clients who swim regularly should be made aware of this.
- Sweating. Clients who exercise frequently and sweat heavily may find the treatment fades slightly faster. That said — see below — washing after exercise is absolutely fine.
Can my client go swimming after having the treatment?
Yes — there is no restriction on swimming after the treatment. However, as general haircare advice, chlorine is damaging to hair regardless of whether a client has had a keratin treatment or not. Repeated exposure to chlorinated pool water will affect the condition of the hair and can reduce the longevity of the treatment results. If a client's priority is to maintain their hair in the best possible condition and get the maximum life out of their treatment, we would advise against regular swimming in chlorinated pools. Where swimming is unavoidable, recommend rinsing the hair thoroughly with clean water immediately after leaving the pool, and using the Keratin Revolution aftercare range to help maintain condition.
Can my client go to the gym after the treatment?
Absolutely — gym and exercise are completely fine after the treatment, with no restrictions. One of the genuine advantages of the Keratin Revolution smoothing treatment is that there is no waiting period before the first wash — so a client can sweat during exercise and wash their hair the same day or the day after their treatment without any issue. This is a significant selling point worth highlighting to active clients, many of whom have been put off keratin treatments in the past by the restrictions associated with older formulas.
When can my client first wash their hair after the treatment?
There is no waiting period before the first wash. Unlike many traditional keratin treatments that require clients to avoid washing for 48–72 hours post-service, Keratin Revolution has no such restriction. In theory, a client could wash their hair on the same day as the treatment, or the day after — whichever suits them. This offers clients much greater flexibility and removes one of the most common objections to keratin treatments — the inconvenience of the post-treatment waiting period. It's a strong point to lead with in your client consultations and marketing.
Key Selling Point :-
No waiting period before first wash. Clients can wash their hair the same day or next day post-treatment — no restrictions on exercise, sweating, or daily life. A significant advantage over traditional keratin treatments.
Are there any instructions for the client to follow immediately after leaving the salon?
Yes — for the best possible results, we recommend that clients keep their hair down and loose until their first wash. That means avoiding hair ties, clips, grips, tucking the hair behind the ears, or anything else that could create a kink, crease, or mark in the hair while it is still in its setting phase. The practical implication of this is entirely in the client's control. Because there is no mandatory waiting period before the first wash, a client who washes their hair the same evening effectively has almost no restriction at all. A client who prefers to leave it longer before washing should keep it down in the meantime to protect the result. This is worth covering clearly at the end of every appointment as part of your post-service consultation — give the client a clear, simple instruction:"Keep it down and loose until your first wash — after that, style it however you like."
Post-Service Advice : Keep hair down and loose until first wash.No clips, ties, or tucking behind the ears. Since clients can wash whenever they like — even the same day — this is a minimal and easy instruction to follow.
How many passes with the flat iron do you recommend?
We recommend between two and seven passes per section, depending on the hair texture. Unlike some other brands, the Keratin Revolution process is specifically designed to minimise the amount of heat required to achieve the desired result — protecting the health and integrity of the hair throughout the service.
- Fine, bleach blonde, or over-processed hair — two passes per 1cm section at approximately 180°C. Less heat, fewer passes — the hair is already in a more vulnerable condition and doesn't need or benefit from excessive heat.
- 4C, coarser, or more resistant textures — up to seven passes per 1cm section at 210°C to 220°C. The higher number of passes ensures the treatment penetrates and sets effectively on denser, more resistant hair.
Full guidance on sectioning, pass technique, and timing for different hair types is covered in depth during the Keratin Specialist Club training.
Should the treatment be applied to wet or dry hair?
The treatment is applied to dry hair. After cleansing with the Clarifying Shampoo, the hair must be blow dried to 100% dry before the treatment is applied. This is an important step — applying to fully dry hair ensures even, complete coverage across the entire head, making it far easier to control the application and ensure no areas are missed. This is also one of the key reasons why ensuring the hair is completely dry before the flat iron stage is so important — see the question on post-treatment odour for more detail on why residual moisture at the flat iron stage can affect the result.
Is Keratin Revolution compatible with colour and bleaching services?
Yes — Keratin Revolution is fully compatible with colour, bleach, and all other chemical services, including relaxers. However, we strongly recommend allowing a period of one to two weeks between a colour or bleach service and the keratin treatment. Having multiple chemical services in quick succession is not good for the condition of the hair, and giving it time to settle between services delivers a better overall result and a healthier client experience. As a general principle — even when services are technically compatible — spacing them out is always better for the integrity of the hair. Build this guidance into your client consultation process and it will set you apart as a professional who genuinely prioritises hair health.
Can I colour the hair after the keratin treatment?
Yes — colouring after the treatment is fine, but timing matters. As a general guide:
- Wait a minimum of 7 days after the treatment before colouring
- Ideally allow 10 to 14 days if possible, to give the treatment time to fully settle into the hair
- Root touch-ups can typically be carried out sooner if required, as the product application is more targeted and less likely to affect the treated lengths
The same principle applies in reverse — if a client is having both a colour service and a keratin treatment, space them out to protect the condition of the hair. See the question on colour compatibility above for guidance on the recommended gap before the treatment.
Can the treatment be applied to henna-treated hair?
This requires caution. Henna is a natural dye that can behave unpredictably when combined with professional treatments, and the outcome varies significantly depending on the type and formulation of henna used — natural henna behaves differently to compound henna or henna-based dyes that contain metallic salts. A strand test is essential before proceeding on any henna-treated hair. Do not skip this step. Carry out the strand test in an inconspicuous section and assess the result before committing to a full application. Results may vary and the strand test is the only reliable way to determine compatibility for that specific client's hair.
Important :-
Always perform a strand test on henna-treated hair before applying the treatment. Do not proceed without one. Results vary significantly depending on the henna used.
What flat iron temperature should I use?
The correct flat iron temperature depends on the hair texture you're working with. Importantly, Keratin Revolution is effective at lower temperatures — and keeping temperatures lower is always better for the long-term health of the hair. As a guide:
- Fine, bleach blonde, or over-processed hair — work at approximately 180°C. Lower temperatures protect already compromised hair while still delivering effective results.
- Afro Caribbean and coarser textures — work at 210°C to 220°C. The higher temperature is needed to penetrate the hair structure effectively on denser, coarser hair.
Full guidance on flat iron technique for different hair textures is covered in depth in the Keratin Specialist Club training.
Key Principle : KR is effective at lower temperatures. 180°C for fine/bleached hair · 210–220°C for coarser textures. Lower is always better for hair health — never exceed what the texture requires.
How long does the service take from start to finish?
The keratin smoothing service typically takes between two and three hours from start to finish. The exact duration depends on the texture, length, and density of your client's hair — coarser, thicker, or longer hair will naturally take longer to section, apply, dry, and flat iron thoroughly. When booking clients in, we recommend allowing three hours as a safe default to avoid feeling rushed, particularly for new clients whose hair you haven't worked with before. As you become more familiar with the process, you'll develop a better feel for timing different hair types.
What if a client says the treatment hasn't worked?
While this is rare, it can occasionally happen — and it's important to handle it professionally. Always invite the client back in for a free consultation so you can assess the results for yourself in person before drawing any conclusions. It's worth noting that clients don't always have the most objective view of their own results. A client may feel there's been no difference when there genuinely has been — particularly if they were expecting a more dramatic outcome than the treatment delivers on their specific hair type. Your professional eye is important here. Seeing the hair in person, comparing it to your recollection of the pre-treatment condition, and giving your honest professional opinion is the right approach. If, after your assessment, you agree the result is genuinely unsatisfactory, contact the Keratin Revolution Pro team at hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com and we will work through it with you.
Is the keratin smoothing service suitable for men?
Yes — the keratin smoothing service is absolutely suitable for men , particularly those with longer hair or textured hair that they struggle to manage. There is a growing male client base for keratin treatments, and if you search social media you'll find a wealth of positive examples and before-and-after results from male clients who've had the service. The consultation, application process, and aftercare advice are the same as for female clients. The key factor — as always — is hair texture and condition rather than gender. If a male client has the right hair type and the right expectations, the service works just as effectively.
Can Keratin Revolution be used on hair extensions?
Yes — Keratin Revolution can be used on extensions, provided they are natural hair extensions. The treatment works on the natural hair structure, so synthetic extensions are not compatible. Natural hair extensions — whether bonded, tape-in, weft, or micro ring — can be treated effectively. We have many extension specialists in our Pro network using the Keratin Revolution system with excellent results, including our UK brand ambassador Kerry-Ann Buckell , who is a hair extension specialist and a strong advocate for the treatment on extension clients.
What if a client becomes pregnant after having the treatment?
There is nothing to be concerned about. Once the keratin smoothing treatment has been applied and completed, the process is finished — there is nothing ongoing being absorbed or active in the hair. The treatment is set into the hair structure during the service itself. Our caution around pregnancy relates specifically to the application process — the product contact, the heat, and the salon environment during the service. A client who becomes pregnant after having a treatment has no cause for concern about the treatment they've already received. The practical implication is straightforward: if a client is pregnant and their treatment results begin to fade, they should wait until after their pregnancy before having the service repeated. As always, we recommend they consult their doctor or midwife if they have any concerns.
Reassurance :-
A client who becomes pregnant after treatment hasnothing to worry about— the treatment is complete once applied. The pregnancy caution applies to having anewtreatment during pregnancy, not to a treatment already received.
Technical & Safety
Can the treatment be applied to pregnant women?
As a responsible brand, we do not recommend applying Keratin Revolution treatments to pregnant women. While our formula is glyoxylic acid based with no added formaldehyde, we take a cautious approach when it comes to pregnancy — as should any professional salon. The safety of a client and their unborn child is never something to take risks with, regardless of the product. If a pregnant client is keen to proceed despite this guidance, we recommend they consult their doctor or midwife first and obtain medical clearance before any treatment is carried out. The decision ultimately rests with the client and their healthcare professional — but our position as a brand is clear: we do not suggest applying the treatment during pregnancy.
Our Position :-
Do not apply to pregnant clients. If a client wishes to proceed, advise them toconsult their doctor firstand ensure this is documented in your client consultation record before any service is carried out.
What safety precautions should I follow when applying the treatment?
Following our Application Instructions carefully is essential for both client safety and the best possible results. The key safety precautions to observe are:
- Never apply the product to the scalp. Due to the pH level of the formula, application must begin at least 1cm from the scalp at all times. Ensure the product does not make contact with the scalp area or the hairline throughout the application process.
- Rinse immediately if contact with the scalp occurs. If the product accidentally touches the scalp or hairline, rinse thoroughly with water immediately. Do not allow the product to remain in contact with the scalp.
- Rinse for a minimum of 45 seconds during the rinse stage of the application procedure. Do not rush this step — a thorough rinse is an important part of the process.
- Ensure good ventilation throughout the treatment. While Keratin Revolution is more comfortable to work with than many treatments on the market — and does include a rinse stage during application — we still strongly recommend maintaining adequate airflow in the salon throughout the service. Open windows, use extraction fans, or ensure good air circulation at all times.
Full safety guidance, including our Safety Data Sheet (SDS), is available on request from hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com. We recommend all team members applying the treatment familiarise themselves with the SDS before their first application.
Key Rules :-
1cm from scalp at all times · Rinse immediately if scalp contact occurs · Minimum 45-second rinse during application · Good ventilation throughout. Follow these and you'll deliver a safe, professional service every time.
Is it normal for the hair to have a smell after the treatment? Why does this happen?
This is a great question — and yes, it can occasionally happen. The smell that some clients notice after a keratin treatment is related to sulphur bonds within the hair's structure. During the treatment process, the formula interacts with the natural proteins in the hair, and if moisture is present at the flat iron stage or the application process isn't followed precisely, it can cause a temporary odour as those sulphur bonds are affected by heat. The good news is that this is entirely preventable in the vast majority of cases by following two key steps:
- Ensure the hair is completely dry before proceeding to the flat iron stage. This is the single most important factor. Any residual moisture when the flat iron is applied can trigger the sulphur reaction and cause an odour. Take the time to ensure the hair is fully, evenly dry — not just surface dry — before you begin straightening.
- Follow the step-by-step application process in full, in the correct order. The process has been developed and tested to deliver the best results with minimal side effects. Skipping steps, rushing stages, or varying the sequence can compromise both the result and the client experience. Trust the process and follow it precisely every time.
If a client does notice a mild smell in the days immediately following treatment, reassure them that this is temporary and will dissipate completely. It is not an indication of a product fault — it is a chemistry response that is minimised with correct application technique.
Key Point :-
Hair must be completely dry before the flat iron stage. Any moisture at this point is the primary cause of post-treatment odour. Follow the full step-by-step process without shortcuts and this is almost always avoided entirely.
I've seen a video of someone applying the product differently to your official instructions. Why is that?
Keratin Revolution is a well-established brand used by thousands of hairdressers across the UK and internationally. With that scale, it's entirely natural that some stylists will develop their own way of working with the product — and in some cases, achieve great results doing so. We don't find that surprising, and we're not defensive about it.However, there's an important reason why we ask you to follow our official application guidelines. When we developed the service procedure, we didn't just optimise for results in isolation.Three factors were considered together:
- Results. The procedure is designed to deliver the best possible smoothing outcome, consistently, across different hair types and textures.
- Comfort for the stylist. The process has been refined to be as practical and straightforward as possible for the person carrying out the service, minimising fatigue and maximising efficiency.
- Client safety. This is non-negotiable. The official procedure has been developed with client wellbeing at its centre — including scalp protection, rinse timings, and ventilation requirements. Variations seen online may not account for these safety considerations.
What you see in an online video may reflect one stylist's personal preference or a shortcut that happens to work for them — but it may also omit steps that matter for safety or consistency. As a brand, we highly recommend following the official guidance we provide. It represents the optimised procedure — tested, refined, and designed to give your clients the best and safest experience every time.
Our Guidance :-
Online videos may show variations that work for individual stylists — but our official procedure is optimised for results, stylist comfort, and client safety together. Always follow the official Keratin Revolution application instructions.
My client's hair feels sticky when wet after the treatment. What causes this?
Stickiness when wet is usually an indication of residual product in the hair. The most common causes are:
- The treatment was not rinsed thoroughly enough during the application process
- Too much product was applied — excess product that hasn't been fully worked into the hair can sit on the surface
- The rinse stage was rushed or incomplete
The fix is straightforward — a clarifying cleanse with the Clarifying Shampoo or Detox Shampoo will remove any residual product and resolve the issue. Remind the client to ensure they rinse thoroughly when washing at home.
My client's hair feels dry after the treatment. What should I recommend?
Post-treatment dryness is usually caused by one of the following:
- Pre-existing damage — hair that was already compromised before the treatment may feel drier initially, particularly if it is highly porous
- Excessive heat during the flat iron stage — too many passes or too high a temperature can strip moisture from the hair
- Very porous hair — highly porous hair can lose moisture more readily during the heat sealing stage
Recommended products to address post-treatment dryness:
- Formula.Five — molecular repair treatment that works to rebuild and strengthen the hair from within
- Nutritional & Repair Mask — intensive conditioning treatment for deep hydration
- Silk Coat — lightweight finishing spray that adds moisture, shine, and humidity protection
Can the treatment be reapplied if the result isn't satisfactory?
Yes — a corrective application can be performed if necessary, but always assess the hair thoroughly first before deciding to reapply. Book the client in for a free in-person consultation so you can see the result for yourself and give your professional opinion. As noted elsewhere in this guide, clients don't always have the most objective view of their own results — a proper assessment in person is always the right starting point. If, after your assessment, a corrective application is the right course of action, proceed following the standard application process and contact the KR Pro team at hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com if you need guidance.
How long should the treatment be rinsed during the application process?
Rinse for a minimum of 45 seconds — and continue until the water runs completely clear. Do not rush this stage. Insufficient rinsing is one of the most common causes of post-treatment issues including stickiness and odour, both of which are easily avoided with a thorough rinse.
Is flat iron sealing required after the treatment is applied?
Yes — the flat iron sealing stage is essential and cannot be skipped. The heat from the flat iron is what activates and locks the treatment into the hair structure. Without it:
- The results will be significantly reduced
- The longevity of the treatment will decrease considerably
- The overall client experience will be inconsistent and disappointing
Always complete the full application process including the flat iron stage. See the questions on flat iron temperature and number of passes for full guidance.
Is the treatment suitable for children?
No.We do not recommend applying Keratin Revolution treatments to children. The official manufacturer's guidelines state that this treatment is suitable for ages 16 and above only. Please do not apply the treatment to anyone under the age of 16, regardless of parental consent.
Can clients with a sensitive scalp have the treatment?
We advise being extremely cautious in this situation. As a general rule, always assess the scalp thoroughly during the client consultation before proceeding. Do not apply the treatment if the client has any of the following:
- Open cuts or abrasions on the scalp
- Active scabs or sores
- Visible scalp irritation, redness, or inflammation
- Any breakage in the skin on or around the scalp or hairline
Even without visible issues, a client who reports a generally sensitive scalp should be made aware that the product must be applied at least 1cm from the scalp at all times, and that if any irritation is felt during the service they should inform the stylist immediately so the product can be rinsed off.
What should a client do if they experience irritation or a reaction after leaving the salon?
If a client experiences any irritation, discomfort, or adverse reaction after their treatment, they should contact the salon as soon as possible. The salon should then get in touch with the Keratin Revolution Pro team immediately at hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com, providing full details of the application, the products used, and the client's symptoms. We will support the salon through the process and advise on the appropriate next steps. As always, if a client is experiencing significant discomfort or a severe reaction, they should seek medical advice without delay. This is why thorough client consultation — including reviewing scalp condition and any known sensitivities — before every treatment is so important. Prevention is always better than having to manage a reaction after the fact.
Protocol :-
Client reports a reaction →contact the salon immediately → salon contacts hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com with full application details. For severe reactions, the client should seek medical advice without delay.
Training & Certification
What is the Keratin Specialist Club?
The Keratin Specialist Club is our professional training and certification programme for salon professionals who want to offer Keratin Revolution treatments with full confidence. It combines hands-on, face-to-face training at our UK training locations with a comprehensive product bundle, giving you everything you need to start offering the service immediately after completing the course. Members also benefit from ongoing support, brand marketing materials, and listing on our salon locator.
What does the training cover?
The course covers everything you need to deliver outstanding results and run a profitable keratin service in your salon. This includes:
- The science behind keratin treatments — understanding how and why the treatment works
- Application technique — step-by-step process, sectioning, timing, and finishing
- Client consultation — identifying the right candidates, managing expectations, patch testing
- Product knowledge — the full KR range and how to recommend and retail effectively
- Health and safety — COSHH, ventilation, PPE, and safe working practices
- Pricing your service — how to position and price the treatment in your salon
- Marketing your new service — social content, client communications, and in-salon promotion
Is the training in person or online?
Our UK Keratin Specialist Club training is delivered face-to-face at our training locations across the UK. We believe hands-on training is the only way to truly master the application — watching a video is not the same as working with real hair under the guidance of an experienced trainer. For our US salon partners, we also offer an online certification course hosted on our Podia platform, which can be completed at your own pace.
What do I receive when I complete the training?
Upon successful completion of the Keratin Specialist Club, you receive:
- A Keratin Revolution Specialist Certificate confirming your certified status
- The product bundle included in your membership, ready to use on clients immediately
- Permission to use the "Keratin Revolution Certified Salon" designation in your marketing
- Listing on the Keratin Revolution salon locator — so clients searching for KR treatments in your area find you
- Access to our brand marketing pack including social media assets and in-salon materials
- Ongoing Pro support from the Keratin Revolution team
Pricing & Retail
What margin can I make retailing Keratin Revolution products?
Our Pro pricing is structured to give salons a healthy retail margin — typically in line with or better than the industry standard for premium professional haircare. We'll share the full Pro price list and RRP guide with you when you register your account, so you can calculate your exact margin on each product. Silk Coat and Formula.Five in particular are strong retail performers with excellent margin potential and high repeat purchase rates.
Can I sell Keratin Revolution products online or through marketplaces like Amazon?
Online sales via your own salon website are permitted, provided you sell at or above our recommended retail price (RRP). However, selling through third-party marketplaces — including Amazon, eBay, or similar platforms — is not permitted under your Pro account agreement without our express written consent. This protects the brand's positioning and ensures pricing integrity across all channels, which ultimately protects your margin too.
How do I price the keratin treatment service in my salon?
Pricing the treatment correctly is important — both to ensure you're profitable and to position the service at the right level for your clients. There are two key factors that directly affect what you should charge:
- Hair texture. The texture and density of your client's hair has a direct impact on the amount of product required to complete the service — and therefore your cost of product per client. Finer hair uses significantly less product than thick, coarse, or very long hair. Pricing a flat rate for all clients risks undercharging on some appointments and leaving margin on the table.
- Time. The duration of the service varies depending on hair texture, length, and the complexity of the application. Your time is a cost, and your pricing needs to reflect it accurately.
Because pricing this service accurately is so important, we provide a dedicated pricing calculator spreadsheet to all Pro account holders. It allows you to input your cost price of product and your target profit level, and it calculates the correct service price for you based on your specific salon circumstances. There's no guesswork — just an accurate, profitable price every time.To request your copy of the pricing calculator, contact us at hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com.
Key Tool :-
We provide a dedicated pricing calculator spreadsheet for all Pro stockists. Input your product cost and target profit — it does the rest. Contact hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com to request yours.
Do clients have to use the Keratin Revolution aftercare products?
No — clients will still experience the benefits of the keratin smoothing treatment without using the retail range. However, we strongly recommend it , and here's why it matters for both your client and your business.Your client has made a real investment in the service. Using the correct aftercare products — specifically formulated to work with the treatment — means they get the best possible results for the longest possible time. All Keratin Revolution products are designed to work in harmony with the smoothing treatment and other services, so every product they use at home is actively enhancing their experience of the service rather than working against it.From a business perspective, retailing aftercare to every treatment client increases your average order value per visit without any additional service time. A client who invests in the treatment and then uses the correct products at home will also see better results — meaning they're more likely to rebook, refer friends, and remain loyal to your salon. It's genuinely a win-win situation.
The Case :-
Clients don'thaveto use the aftercare range — but those who do getbetter results, longer-lasting smoothness, and a better overall experience of the service. That makes the retail conversation easy, honest, and genuinely in the client's interest.
How do I promote and sell the retail products in my salon?
The most effective retail approach with Keratin Revolution products is to let the client experience them first — rather than simply recommending them at the end of the appointment. Here's how we suggest doing it:
- Always have products on display. Retail that clients can see, touch, and read creates passive interest before you've said a word. A well-presented retail shelf does a lot of the work for you.
- Use as many products as possible during the smoothing service itself. We recommend incorporating the Argan Oil and Silk Coat as finishing steps within your smoothing service protocol. Using them in-chair means the client gets to experience the products first-hand — they feel the texture, see the finish, and crucially, they get to smell the fragrance. The scent of our products is genuinely beautiful, and that sensory experience is one of the most powerful selling tools you have.
- Talk about what you're using as you use it. You're already doing the service — simply narrating the products you're applying turns a treatment into a product education moment. "I'm just going to finish with our Silk Coat — it locks in the smoothness and protects against humidity" is a natural, unforced recommendation that plants the seed for a retail purchase.
- Let the client touch and smell products at the backwash or basin. Handing a client a product to look at while you're working is low-pressure and highly effective. People buy what they've already held in their hands.
The goal is to make the retail conversation feel like a natural extension of the service — not a sales pitch at the end. When clients have already experienced the products during their appointment, recommending them to take home feels helpful rather than pushy.
Key Approach :-
Use Argan Oil and Silk Coat as part of your service protocol. The client experiences the product, smells the fragrance, sees the result — and the retail conversation happens naturally. Experience first, recommendation second.
Do you offer volume discounts for salons who order regularly?
Yes — volume discounts are available and are built directly into the product pages on keratinrevolutionpro.com. As a Pro Account Holder, you'll see the tiered pricing automatically when you're logged in and browsing the catalogue. The more you order of a product, the better the price per unit — no need to negotiate or apply separately. Simply log in, browse, and the discounts are applied at checkout.
Do you offer exclusivity in a geographic area — can I be the only KR salon in my town?
We do not offer geographic exclusivity. Keratin Revolution Pro accounts are open to all qualifying salon professionals, and we do not restrict the number of stockists in any given area. Our focus is on building a strong, well-supported network of professional salons rather than limiting availability. The best way to stand out in your area is through excellent results, strong client relationships, and active promotion of your KR services.
Support & Partnership
What marketing support do you provide to Pro stockists?
We provide Pro stockists with a comprehensive brand marketing pack including social media imagery, in-salon display materials, and product photography. Certified salons also receive access to our Marrakech campaign content — high-quality professional imagery and video that you can use on your own social channels to promote the treatment. We don't just sell you products and walk away — we're invested in helping your salon grow.
Will my salon be listed on the Keratin Revolution website?
Yes — all certified salons are listed on the Keratin Revolution salon locator on keratinrevolutionpro.com. Clients actively search for KR-certified salons in their area, and being listed means you capture that demand directly. The listing includes your salon name, location, and contact details. This is one of the most immediate and tangible benefits of completing the Keratin Specialist Club training.
What happens if a client has an adverse reaction?
Client safety is our highest priority. In the event of an adverse reaction, the most important steps are:
- Follow your salon's standard adverse reaction protocol — rinse thoroughly and provide appropriate aftercare
- Document the incident fully — client history, products used, batch numbers, application details
- Contact us immediately at hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com with full details — we will support you through the process
- Adverse reactions are extremely rare when our Application Instructions are followed and client consultations are conducted properly
This is another reason thorough client consultation — including patch testing — is so important before every treatment.
Who do I contact if I need help or have a question?
Our Pro team is available via email at hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com. We aim to respond to all enquiries within one business day. Whether you have a question about application technique, a product query, an order issue, or you just want advice on how to grow your KR service — we're here for it. You're not just a customer to us — you're a partner, and we treat you that way.
Can I become a Keratin Revolution educator or trainer?
We are always open to applications from the right people. If you're a qualified hairdresser with relevant experience, the right personality, genuine drive, and a real passion for the Keratin Revolution brand, we'd love to hear from you. Please send your expression of interest, along with details of your experience and why you think you'd be a great fit, to hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com. We review applications on an ongoing basis.
Orders & Delivery
How quickly will my order arrive?
We dispatch all Pro orders within 1–2 working days of placement. Orders placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday, and before 12pm on Friday, are prioritised for next-day dispatch. Delivery is viaDPDfor express shipments or Royal Mail for 24-hour and 48-hour services — full tracking is provided on all options so you always know where your products are.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No minimum order quantity applies to Pro accounts. Order what you need, when you need it. Many salons start with a single kit or a small selection to test client appetite before scaling up — that's completely fine with us. As your confidence and client demand grows, we'll be ready to support larger and more frequent orders.
What is your returns policy?
We ask that all orders are inspected within 48 hours of delivery. If you receive damaged, incorrect, or defective products, please contact us at hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com within that window and we'll resolve it promptly. Returns are accepted for genuine defects within 14 days of delivery, provided products are unused and in original packaging. We're not able to accept returns for products that have been opened and used, or for change of mind. Full details are set out in our Pro Account Terms and Conditions.
Can I track my order?
Yes — full tracking is provided on every order, whichever shipping service you select. We use two carriers depending on the service chosen at checkout:
- DPD — for express shipments. You'll receive an automated notification as soon as your order is collected, with a one-hour delivery window on the day of delivery.
- Royal Mail — for 24-hour and 48-hour services. Full tracking information is provided so you can monitor your shipment from dispatch to doorstep.
Whichever service you choose, you'll have everything you need to manage and track your delivery from your end. If you have any issues with a shipment, contact us at hello@keratinrevolutionpro.com and we'll liaise with the courier on your behalf.
What is the shelf life of the products once opened?
Once opened, Keratin Revolution products have a shelf life of 12 months . As with all professional haircare products, we recommend noting the date of opening and ensuring products are used within this timeframe for best results.
Do the products need to be stored in any specific way?
Yes — we recommend storing all Keratin Revolution products at room temperature, in a temperature-controlled environment. Avoid storing products in areas of excessive heat (such as near radiators, in direct sunlight, or in a hot vehicle) or in very cold conditions. Consistent room temperature storage preserves the integrity of the formula and ensures the product performs as intended when you come to use it.
